TYLER, Texas — The Tyler city council approved two projects Wednesday in an effort to reduce the cost of maintenance and operation for Tyler Water Utilities' wastewater system.
In a press release, a spokesperson for the city of Tyler said that the projects will affect the Bellwood Lift Station and the Shackleford Creek Lift Station.
TWU will be eliminating the Bellwood Lift Station and replacing it with a 30 inch gravity main, following a new alignment in the same area. The Tyler city council approved a $1,804,750 contract with KSA Engineers, Inc. for it's design, permitting and acquisition and construction services for the project. The Bellwood Lift Station is located on the north side of Bellwood Lake and serves 3,130 acres, including the All Saints Episcopal School, The Cascades, TJC West Campus and several local car dealerships. The press release said it is nearing its maximum capacity.
A design survey conducted by KSA engineers with TWU showed that abandoning the Bellwood Lift Station is the ideal solution, saving the city maintenance and operations costs and eliminate the responsibility of monitoring the lift station. The replacement of the Bellwood Lift Station is anticipated to take seven months to design and a year and a half for construction.
The city also approved a $1,392,181 contract with Capps-Capco Construction, Inc. for improvements to the Shackleford Creek Lift Station with funds from the Consent Decree bond. The station serves 3,500 acres in South Tyler. A spokesperson for the city of Tyler said in a press release the location is prone to flooding, and leaves electrical equipment in the lower portion of the building vulnerable to water damage.
The project will oversee the following:
•Replace damaged electrical equipment
•Relocate to a new precast building
•Construct a flood prevention wall
•Improve HVAC in the existing building
•Force Main Adjustments
•Odor Control
The Shackleford Creek Lift Station is expected to take eight months for construction.
