Suspect still at-large following early morning carjacking in Smith County

Once in the car, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded the driver to give him his cell phone and to exit the car.

TYLER, Texas — The Smith County Sheriff's Office responded to a call Monday morning of a reported carjacking.

Around 4:30 a.m., SCSO were called to a gas station at State Highway 110 North and Interstate 20 regarding an aggravated robbery and carjacking. According to officials, a driver, who was traveling north on Highway 110, saw someone walking down the side of the road and decided to give the suspect a ride. 

Once in the car, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded the driver to give him his cell phone and to exit the car. The suspect then drove towards I-20. 

According to SCSO, deputies were able to determine that the last place the vehicle was seen was in Terrell but the vehicle has not be located.

The stolen vehicle is described as a 2003 Ford Expedition, white in color, bearing a partial Texas license plate of VHF. The suspect is described as a white man, late 20’s to early 30’s, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans with dark sandy blonde hair, according to police.
