'Representation matters': Longview ISD math teacher continues to earn accolades

Schrundagale Griffith and her daughter, Natasha, had a tradition. Each year, they’d try to build a relationship with one of the employees at Hallsville ISD.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Schrundagale Griffith and her daughter, Natasha, had a tradition. Each year, they’d try to build a relationship with one of the employees at Hallsville ISD, where her daughter attended school. Sometimes, a custodian. Other times, a cafeteria worker.

“We would just pour love into our daughter and into that other person just to help her feel more comfortable,” Griffith said.

One year, Griffith asked Natasha to pick a teacher to get to know. The response shocked her.
