Tornado watch expires for East Texas, stay weather aware!

TYLER, Texas — While the tornado watch has expired for East Texas, you should remain weather aware tonight as showers and storms are still in the forecast. The risk for some strong storms remains as well.

East Texas on a line from Crockett to Carthage and to the north is under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather, with areas further south under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather. Extreme southeastern East Texas will not be under a risk for severe weather as of right now.

All types of severe weather appear to be possible at this time. This includes damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado or two. You should remain weather aware overnight.

As far as the timeline goes, strong storms could be possible through the overnight. A line of showers and storms will push through as a cold front enters East Texas, with more development likely heading into Early Friday morning.

The line will present the risk for all types of severe weather overnight, but will turn more toward a heavy rain threat as we head into Friday morning.
