CBS19 WEATHER: Passing showers and gusty winds in the Piney Woods today

Check out the latest forecast from the CBS19 Weather Experts.

TYLER, Texas — Good morning East Texas,

Last night, Francine strengthened into a hurricane, and it has its sights set on the Louisiana coast.  Most of the heavy rains and damaging winds will pass to our east, but the Piney Woods will see some storms today.  That comes mainly in the form of scattered showers and gusty winds.  Thanks to the clouds, we will stay in the 80s today and tomorrow.  Don't get comfortable in the cooler temperatures, because good ol' East Texas heat returns this weekend with highs in the mid to upper 90s.

Here's your forecast:

TODAY:
Don't forget the rain jacket or umbrella headed out the door today.  Many of our eastern-most counties are waking up to the sound of rain.  Scattered showers and thunderstorms will work their way through the Piney Woods today.  These are all associated with Hurricane Francine, which is forecasted to move through Louisiana.  We are not expecting any severe storms in East Texas, but winds will get breezy today, with gusts between 15 and 30 mph. Overall, it will be a cool day with highs in the low to mid-80s.

TOMORROW:

A few scattered showers will likely stick around into the early morning hours of tomorrow morning, but things will dry out tomorrow afternoon.  Sunshine will lift temperatures to the mid 80s.  As today's rain evaporates, the familiar sticky humidity will return to the Piney Woods.
