Whitehouse baseball coach opens new fitness gym in Tyler

Greg Branch, Whitehouse head baseball coach, has opened RockBox Fitness a boxing, cross fit training studio

WHITEHOUSE, Texas — When Greg Branch isn't on the diamond coaching baseball at Whitehouse High School, he's at RockBox Fitness leading the community in group training.

Branch opened the training studio in early May, known for it's unique style of fitness with boxing and CrossFit workouts. RockBox is one of four locations across the U.S. and the only one in East Texas.

Being a full-time baseball coach and owner of a fitness studio can get difficult to juggle.

"What I like to tell people is, this is my fantasy job half the time," Branch said. "Fortunately, I'm out for the summer most of the time other than baseball workouts during the morning time. So I'm able to be at the studio quite a bit in the summer, but during the school season that got pretty crazy, especially during the playoffs."

Branch's wife, who is a co-owner of the studio, is a local physician. So they both have a passion for health and well-being.

"We both have a deep desire to help people an we fully understand how the world is today," Branch said. "A lot of people need help with their fitness journey."

Branch has hired multiple trainers to help with the studio.

"Our motivation behind it was we wanted to get people who already had experience in the fitness industry training people," he said.

Branch's hope is to have the load of running a company and coaching the high schoolers to not become overwhelming.

The focus of the workouts target full body strength and push people to get out their comfort zone. Contrary to belief, you don't have to be athletic to join, nor do you need an athletic background.

"Some are coming because they want to lose a lot of weight. Some are coming because they want to build strength, some are coming to work on their cardio," a RockBox member said. "It really just gives them an all around workout to do that."
