DALLAS — Kelvontay "Moochie" Dixon graduated from Carthage High School and started his college career at the University of Texas before transferring to SMU in 2022.
In high school, he was a 2019 4A All-State honorable mention selection by the Associated Press, was crowned MVP of District 10-4A and was named First-Team All-District. Dixon also recorded 74 catches for 1,240 yards and 20 TDs as a senior, and rushed for 232 yards and three TDs on 34 carries.
He was selected as the offensive MVP of the state title game, helping Carthage to a 16-0 overall record, a district title and the 4A Division 1 state championship in 2019.
Dixon is now in his senior season at SMU, where currently this season they're 4-1, and for the first time in his SMU career, they secured a big win over TCU in the Iron Skillet Rivalry. Furthermore, last game, they beat Florida State 42-16.
"The atmosphere was electric, rocking, and running out of the tunnel, and just looking at the stadium completely filled up, and how loud it was was just electric," said Dixon.
Dixon has learned a lot in his college football career. He's adamant about listening to the mentors in his life, and remaining patient.
"I would have told freshman year me to just let everything play out, and be patient," said Dixon. "Trust God's process, because he has something for everybody, so just to sit there, and be patient, instead of trying to rush in and doing stuff."
Dixon says this in reference to his time at Texas and at SMU. He expressed regret for rushing his playing time, and wishing he was more patient with the process.
Even in college, Dixon believes his time at Carthage under Coach Scott Surratt's winning program has taught him a lot about consistency and work ethic. Dixon also still keeps up with the Carthage Bulldogs during his off time.
"I keep up with them," said Dixon. "They're some dogs."
