UNDER THE LIGHTS: Round 4 Playoff Preview

Friday will feature teams from across East Texas competing deep in the playoffs.

TYLER, Texas — The stakes are higher than ever as East Texas teams gear up for round four of the football playoffs, with matchups promising excitement and intensity.

The 10-3 Van Vandals, riding a wave of momentum, face their toughest challenge yet against the 12-1 Carthage Bulldogs. Carthage, a powerhouse team with nine state championships under its belt, looks to add another ring to their collection. Meanwhile, Van aims to pull off a monumental upset and keep their playoff dreams alive.

In another thrilling clash, the 11-2 Liberty-Eylau Leopards will square off against the 2023 Malakoff Tigers. The Tigers secured their first state championship in school history in 2023 and they're looking to add to the legacy. Both teams have shown resilience and firepower throughout the season, setting the stage for a hard-fought battle.

The "Battle of the Bulldogs" pits Kilgore against Chapel Hill in a matchup has regional pride and playoff implications. These two teams share a rich history, and the winner will take another step toward the state title. Kilgore fell to Chapel Hill in this round last season 21-19. 

Finally, the Longview Lobos will go head-to-head with DeSoto in a showdown. Both teams known for bringing the large fanbases, and that will be put to the test as they will face off in Waco at McLane Stadium. 

With so much talent on display, East Texas fans are in for a weekend of unforgettable playoff action. Below are the times and locations of the matchups.

- Liberty-Eylau vs. Malakoff, 7PM @ Rose Stadium 

- Woodville vs. Daingerfield, 7PM @ Palestine

- Kilgore vs. Chapel Hill, 7:30PM @ Forney City Bank Stadium

Saturday, Dec. 7

- Longview vs. DeSoto, 3PM @ Baylor’s McLane Stadium
