CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A video of a cheerleader at AT&T Stadium in Dallas is going viral, not for her dance routine during a football game, but for her impressive 'footwork' on the sidelines.
The video shows the athlete turning the arena into her own boxing ring and her eye-opening skills are racking up the views!
It just so happens that the cheerleader is from right here in South Texas.
The video has received over 380,000 likes on Instagram and has even been shared by ESPN, throwing 'Mighty' Mia Pinney from Ingleside into the spotlight for her passions for cheer and boxing.
"This was my first year doing cheer, whenever I was little, I really loved cheer," Mia said.
A chance to cheer on the turf at AT&T Stadium in Dallas is quite the goal for any squad, but for Mia, it was her passion for a different kind of skill that stole the spotlight.
"I truly think that the video will inspire young girls all over the world," Mia's dad Jordan Pinney said.
The video taken by her dad shows off Mia's impressive shadowboxing moves, something you don't see very often from a cheerleader, but she's not just any cheerleader.
She's also a top national ranked boxer for her age.
"I'm 14 years old," Mia said.
She trains at Elite Fitness in Ingleside.
Jordan is not just a dad, but also a coach, teaching boxing skills to kids. Mia was his first student.
"I always tell them that one of y'all is gonna take off one of these days and our whole team is right there with them," he said.
It's tough to keep up with the Mighty Mia, she's quick on her feet. After all, she's been climbing the ranks since she was six.
The athlete is now first in the nation in both the 75 and 85 pound weight class.
She shadowboxes any chance she gets, even on a football field.
"I was in the middle of cheering and my dad was like, 'Hey, let's get a video of you.' And I was just like, 'Dad now is not the time or place,' " Mia said.
The video is just 10 seconds, but it was long enough to blow up on social media.
Over 5 million views and counting!
Since posting to her Instagram, 'mia_mighty_pinney,' she said she's received a lot of support from around the world.
Her dad admits he was hesitant when she wanted to cheer.
"I didn't want it to interfere with her boxing and the goals that she has because she is a national champ," Jordan said. "She does have a lot of talent and she also has the capability to be a world champion someday."
But he couldn't say no.
Now Mia is mixing the two activities she loves.
Cheerleader by day. Fighter by night.
"Now she's also been able to go on to the cheer team and make new friends and learn a new skill and I, I believe it has truly helped her boxing also," Jordan said.
Teaching her discipline and focus, with a big part of that being her faith.
"I just kept on putting God first and I kept on showing up every day, even the days that I didn't want to," Mia said.
She hopes the recognition from the video will lead to future opportunities and sponsors.
Mia is now focused on going to nationals in Richmond, Virginia which starts next weekend.
