UT Tyler softball headed to Division II World Series for third consecutive year

The Patriots defeated Oklahoma Christian 3-0 on Wednesday to sweep the series.

TYLER, Texas — The UT Tyler softball team won the south central regional tournament and is headed back to the Division II College Softball World Series for the third straight season. 

The Patriots defeated Oklahoma Christian 3-0 on Wednesday to sweep the series.

Courtney Plocheck got the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI single that scored Sam Schott. 

The scoring continued in the third inning after Michele Arias singled followed by a Cassidy Mullen bunt that scored Arias by a throwing error by Oklahoma Christian. A sacrifice fly by Clarisa Zapata scored Mullen to extend the lead to 3-0. 

Christin Haygood, Genesis Armendariz and Kaylee Davis combined for the shutout in the circle for the Patriots.

The Patriots will travel to Longwood, Florida to compete in the Division II softball championship from May 19 to 25. 

In 2022, the Patriots advanced to the World Series in the teams first year of competing in Division II. They went 1-2 in the tournament losing to Rogers St, who won the national title. 

Last season, the Patriots went 3-2 in the tournament ultimately losing to the University of North Georgia in the national semi-finals. UNG would go on to win the national championship. 

UT Tyler will face Augustana in their first game of the World Series on Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m.
