East Texas native Jeff Traylor has been named the top coach in the American Athletic Conference by Athlon Sports.
Traylor, a Gilmer native, is in his fourth season as the head coach of the University of Texas - San Antonio.
During his tenure, UTSA has a 39-14 record which includes two conference championships. Last season, Traylor guided the Roadrunners to a 9-4 record and the programs first bowl win with a 35-17 win over Marshall.
"UTSA has been a model of consistent success at a high level under Traylor's watch. The Texas native was hired as head coach in 2020 and has guided the team to 39 victories over the last four years. During that stretch was back-to-back double-digit win totals (2021-22) and four postseason trips," Athlon Sports said in their press release.
Prior to UTSA, Traylor was as an assistant coach at Arkansas, SMU, and Texas and had a successful head coaching run at Gilmer High School where he won three state titles ('04, '09, '14) in five appearances.
UTSA will begin their season on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they host Kennesaw State at 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome.
