Wife of Kansas City Chiefs owner speaks at Texas Rose Festival ladies luncheon

"We are so honored and blessed to have her come from Kansas City to be with us today," said Liz Ballard, executive director of the Texas Rose Festival.

TYLER, Texas — It's festival season and the 91st Texas Rose Festival is in full swing. On Friday, attendees of the ladies' luncheon heard from the wife of the Kansas City Chiefs owner.

Over the last nine decades, the rose festival has blossomed into a vibrant event that attracts thousands of visitors over the three-day celebration. It features a grand parade, rose exhibition, Queen's Tea, and men's and ladies' luncheons, which were held Friday morning.

Tavia Hunt, wife of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, served as speaker for the ladies.

"We are so honored and blessed to have her come from Kansas City to be with us today," said Liz Ballard, executive director of the Texas Rose Festival. "The family lineage going back to 1935 when Margaret Hunt was our queen. There’s a long legacy of history attached to this family so we’re honored to have her here today."

Notably, Whitehouse native Patrick Mahomes is the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.

On Saturday starting at 9 a.m., people can catch the Rose Parade on Front Street near the Rose Garden. The Queen's Tea will be Saturday afternoon at the Rose Garden.
