TYLER, Texas — Editor's Note: The video above originally aired on June 6 about the initial cleanup efforts in Tyler following severe weather.
Following damage across East Texas caused by severe storms in June, the city of Tyler reported that as of Tuesday, crews have made progress toward cleaning up fallen limbs left behind.
According to the city of Tyler, crews have finished picking up 40% of the trees and limbs that fell during storms. They estimate that crews have picked up 8,500 cubic yards worth of debris. A spokesperson for the city also said there are about 270 sites still need to be cleared of tree limbs.
Smith County Emergency Management shared this map of county roads still affected by fallen tree debris:
Brandon Moore, Smith County Emergency Management coordinator, told CBS19 he estimates the storms caused $2 million in damages to unincorporated county property alone, which does not include damage associated with incorporated cities or political subdivisions.
Residents who have been effected by storm damage can apply for FEMA assistance until June 19 at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling FEMA's helpline: 800-621-3362.
