Cleanup efforts continue across Tyler following severe storm damage

Those storms took down dozens of trees and left thousands in the dark. However, the city of Tyler is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

TYLER, Texas — Crews are working around the clock to clean up the mess three days after storms ripped through East Texas.

Those storms took down dozens of trees and left thousands in the dark. However, the city of Tyler is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

"It’s been crazy. It's awful. We get calls with trees on roofs, and trees over like blown over in people’s yards, but we prioritize the ones of people's roofs and on people's cars because they’ve got to be able to do stuff," Allied Tree Services worker Landon Castle said.

The same scene is happening in pockets across the city with huge trees, still toppled on homes and businesses, being cut and cleared out the way.

"We do appreciate them all coming out and working hard, working day and night," local resident Bryleigh Bonnett said.

In addition to the pros, volunteers are stepping up to lend a helping hand. Assistance from local community members and churches have offered shelter and food for those who need it.

"We just want to show our appreciation. They’ve kind of been out here since the first storm, and constantly picking everything up and making sure we can get everybody power back up and running," resident Ariel Henry said.

Fire Chief David Coble said Tyler is one of those cities that reach out.

"And if someone is helping out or not, they reach out to help anyway the can," Fire Chief David Coble said.

With many of these resources available to community members and workers, the city asks that you do your part and report personal property damages to the Texas Division of Emergency Management through the iSTAT damage surveys.
