TYLER, Texas — Tyler ISD has introduced a new app that will allow parents and guardians to gain access to their child's online activity on school-issued devices.
Tyler ISD says the district is taking their safety strategy one step further by partnering with Qustodio, a world-leading provider of parental control app technology, and are planning to give a free parental control app to every parent in the district.
The app will allow parents to gain visibility of their children’s online activity on their school-issued devices.
"As educators, our priority is to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. “The introduction of a technology parent control app for student-issued devices underscores our commitment to fostering responsible digital citizenship. By empowering parents with tools to monitor and manage their child's online activity, we strengthen the partnership between home and school, promoting a safer and more productive learning experience for our students."
Not only will parents be allowed to monitor school issued devices, parents will also get to use the app on two additional devices in the home.
Tyler ISD says that Qustodio Parent App accounts will be given to all parents within the district and will receive free access to the app.
Parents will also have free access to the Tyler ISD Online Safety Hub, which "provides safety reviews on the most popular apps and games plus insights to help parents have better conversations with their children around online safety," according to Tyler ISD.
