TYLER, Texas — A Tyler ISD student has earned a prestigious national award for his commitment to volunteer work.

Tyler Legacy High School student Shloak Dalal received the Presidential Gold Medal for Volunteering, which honors his exemplary dedication to community service. He has completed over 250 hours of service, primarily at Christus Mother Frances hospitals, Tyler ISD announced on its website.

President’s Volunteer Service Award was established in 2003 to recognize people who dedicate their time and energy to improving their communities and showcase the spirit of civic engagement. The recipient also encourages those around them to help their community as well.

His volunteer responsibilities at the hospital have included assisting at the front desk, aiding pregnant patients, fostering positive relations between families and staff, and various other crucial tasks. Along with enriching the lives of those he has helped, Dalal has gained insights into the medical profession, which is a career field he wants to pursue, the announcement said.

His time at the hospital has solidified his passion, particularly in areas like oncology.
