Salvation Army of Tyler kicks off Red Kettle, Angel Tree seasons

Capt. Jeremy Walker said that starting Friday, there will be 43 different Red Kettle locations people can donate or volunteer to ring the bell around Smith County.

TYLER, Texas — The Salvation Army of Tyler on Friday held its official ribbon cutting to celebrate the kickoff of its Angel Tree and Red Kettle campaign.

Every year, thousands of dollars are raised for those in need during the holiday season through November and December. This year, Salvation Army of Tyler Capt. Jeremy Walker said their goal is to raise $389,000, which would top last year's total amount.

"Every kid deserves Christmas right? Everybody deserves a helping hand at some point in their life. We’ve all been there. We've all needed help at some time and that’s what this is all about. It’s about helping those kids have Christmas on Christmas morning," he said. "It’s about helping those seniors that need Christmas, and it’s about helping programs throughout the years like feeding and housing and getting people back up on their feet."

He said that starting Friday, there will be 43 different Red Kettle locations people can donate or volunteer to ring the bell around Smith County. The list of locations and how to volunteer can be found at registertoring.com.

Volunteers are greatly needed from Nov. 11 thru Dec. 24 as there are over 12,000 hours to fill.

Regarding the Angel Tree, there are more than 2,000 children and seniors registered for gifts for this holiday season.

“The Salvation Army Angel Tree program is so important to our community,” said Capt. Michelle Walker. “We are so grateful for the community's support to make Christmas joy a reality for these angels!”
