Project Linus contributes 120 blankets to the Salvation Army of Tyler

As the Salvation Army prepares for the winter season, the organization placed a call to Project Linus asking for extra blankets before the temperature drops.

TYLER, Texas — A local nonprofit donated over a hundred blankets to the Salvation Army of Tyler.

As the Salvation Army prepares for the winter season, the organization placed a call to Project Linus asking for extra blankets before the temperature drops. Less than a week later, Project Linus area coordinator Kathrynn Welch arrived to the Salvation Army office with 120 blankets ready for those in need.

"Our all-volunteer chapter coordinators actively work within their communities to gather homemade blankets and then distribute them to children in need," the Project Linus website reads. "All Project Linus blankets are hand-made by volunteers, donated to local chapters, and primarily distributed within the same communities where they were donated.”

Welch's chapter of Project linus provides blankets to residents across Smith, Anderson, Cherokee, Upshur and Wood counties.

"Thank you so much for the quick response of blankets donated," the Salvation Army said in a statement Friday. "These donations make a significance difference for the people we serve those sheltered and unsheltered. Especially for the cooler months ahead of us."
