Dogs involved in alleged dogfighting ring expected to be transferred to Smith County

The dogs were previously owned by brothers allegedly involved in a suspected dogfighting ring.

TYLER, Texas — The 60 dogs involved in a suspected Smith County dogfighting ring are expected to be awarded to the county Thursday evening after the previous owners agreed to divest ownership.

The dogs were previously owned by brothers Kerry and Michael Jones, who are still facing criminal charges after allegedly hosting a dogfighting ring. Because of the mutual agreement between the Joneses and the county to transfer ownership, there was no public hearing for the matter.

The county is currently awaiting the signature of Smith County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Derrick Choice to make the transfer of ownership official.

CBS19 will update this story as more information becomes available.
