Officials arrest 'armed and dangerous' teen in connection with Tyler muder

Caleb Ward, 16, was arrested in Anderson County.

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas — A teen has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred in Tyler earlier this month.

According to the Tyler Police Department, Caleb Ward, 16, of Whitehouse, was taken into custody Friday in Anderson County without incident. Police say he will be booked into the Smith County Juvenile Attention Center. 

Ward was arrested after officers found a man, identified as Nathan Martin, 20, of Tyler, lying in the roadway at the intersection of Hwy. 69 N. and CR 489 on Feb. 7, around 11:40 p.m.,  the road with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Highway 69 North and CR 489 on Feb. 7 around 11:40 p.m. 

Joshua Renae Bryant, 25, was arrested for capital murder in relation to Martins' death, among other unrelated charges. He was booked into the Smith County Jail on $1,079,000 bond, according to Smith County Jail records. 

At the time of Bryant's arrest, police were also searching for Ward as a second suspect in the murder. While at-large, he was considered armed and dangerous.

"The Tyler Police Department would like to thank the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Office of Inspector General, who were instrumental in this investigation and for all of the tips that came in from the public that helped in capturing this individual," the TPD said.
