MARSHALL, Texas — The Marshall Police Department put out a statement on Facebook Monday warning residents of an ongoing scam of people pretending to be law enforcement.
Police warn of phone calls, emails or texts supposedly from the Marshall Police Department or Harrison County Sheriff's office, claiming an individual may owe money. The scammers often ask for payments through gift cards, crypto currency or wire transfers.
"Remember that law enforcement will NEVER ask for money over the phone or demand payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or similar forms of payment." The Marshall Police Department said on Facebook. "If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal or financial information."
Those who have been contacted by a potential scammer are being asked to contact the Marshall Police Department at 903-935-4575.
