Marshall police: Scam call asking for payment, impersonating police officer

According to Marshall P.D., a resident informed police of a caller appearing to use the main dispatch line to identify themselves as "Capt. Jonathan Parks."

MARSHALL, Texas — The Marshall Police Department is warning residents of a scam caller identifying themselves as law enforcement.

According to Marshall P.D., a resident informed police of a caller appearing to use the main dispatch line to identify themselves as "Capt. Jonathan Parks." The caller claimed to be from the warrants division and that the resident had outstanding warrants for missing jury duty. Officials also said the scammer had specific dates and personal information related to the intended victim.

The caller allegedly instructed the resident to purchase a $3,500 money voucher from a local business to resolve the alleged warrants. Officials also said the phone number used was falsified to appear as if it was from the Marshall P.D.

Marshall Police ensured that they will never ask for money over the phone or request payment via gift cards, money vouchers, or similar methods. They also reminded residents to always verify the authenticity of such calls by contacting the agency directly using a known and official number. They ask that if residents receive a suspicious call to not provide any personal information or make any payments. Instead, hang up immediately and report the incident to us at 903-935-4578, not the number that appears on your caller ID.
