Schools around the country are taking major steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), even canceling classes or moving them online.
Here is a list of colleges and universities across East Texas that are responding to COVID-19 concerns:
UT Health Science Center at Tyler has extended spring break until March 20.
At this time, a determination has yet to be made regarding the format and delivery of courses following this extended break.
Angelina College is opting to cancel in-person classes until March 23.
During the week of March 16, no in-person classes will be held. The campus will remain open.
The additional week will provide faculty and staff the ability to conduct extensive cleaning and sanitation efforts as well as provide instruction to our team.
Stephen F. Austin has extended spring break for students through March 17, with no academic activities taking place for students.
Starting March 18, all classes will resume online or another distance-education format until April 6.
Students are asked to remain off campus until in-person classes resume.
LeTourneau University has canceled all in-person classes for March 16-20 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Online classes will continue the normal schedule.
Starting March 23, all classes will be taught online until April 3. The campus will remain open and food service will resume March 16.
UT Tyler announced Wednesday afternoon there will be an extension placed on their spring break and classes will be moving online.
On the University’s website, they have a page exclusively for coronavirus information. There they lay out University guidelines for travel, self-quarantine, and provide links to information on COVID-19.
Among these guidelines, UT Tyler says all university-sponsored international travel is suspended until further notice, and students and staff are required to report any travel to a country with a CDC Level 2 or 3 warning.
Kilgore College will hold no credit classes, whether in-person or online, March 16-22.
Classes will resume remotely (online, video-conferencing, or in an alternative format) beginning March 23. KC is working diligently to ensure that it continues to be a safe place to learn.
Texas College has postponed its legacy scholarship event. On Wednesday they held an assembly to educate their students on COVID-19. Their spring break begins next week and will be extended through March 27.
The college is asking students to avoid international travel, however, if they do so, they are asked to observe a 14-day self-quarantine when they return.
Tyler Junior College has opted to extend its spring break through March 20.
Jacksonville College will conduct face-to-face classes in an online format until April 6.
