GILMER, Texas — The race for Upshur County sheriff has two Republican candidates, including incumbent Larry Webb, and a lone Democrat for this year's March primary.
Webb, who has served as sheriff since 2017, is seeking his third term in office. According to the Longview News-Journal, Webb worked for the Longview Police Department from 1995 to 2016 as a special weapons and tactics officer, K-9 handler and supervisor before becoming sheriff.
Webb's Republican challenger, Mark Case, worked for the Gladewater Police Department from 1990 to 1996. He then went to the Gilmer Police Department, where he ultimately became the police chief in 2014 before retiring in 2022.
Brandon “Bear” Williams is the only Democrat in the primary. Therefore, whichever Republican candidate wins in March will face Williams in the November general election.
Williams spent eight years as an Upshur County Sheriff’s Office deputy. He was a teacher at Gilmer High School, teaching criminal justice and he served as a school security officer. He became a full-time officer with the Gilmer Police Department in January, the News-Journal reported.
Early voting begins Feb. 20 and runs for just under two weeks. Election Day is March 5. For early voting hours and locations, click here. Election Day polling sites can be found here.
