DOCS: Phone records led to 3 arrests related to fatal robbery of man found inside burning vehicle in Rusk County

Nathaniel Hall, 18, Jasmine Williams, 21, and a teenager are all charged with capital murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Kameron Montre Anderson.

RUSK COUNTY, Texas — Documents show a Dallas-Fort Worth area man was in "constant" communication with one of the three people accused of robbing and killing him in East Texas before his death.

Nathaniel Hall, 18,  Jasmine Williams, 21, and a teenager are all charged with capital murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Kameron Montre Anderson. Arrest documents say Anderson was shot during a robbery and later found dead in a burning vehicle in Rusk County on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The investigation into Anderson's death involved multiple agencies, including the Smith County Sheriff's Office, Rusk County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Rangers, the Troup Police Department and the Tyler Police Department.

According to an arrest affidavit, Anderson was found dead with two gunshot wounds inside the trunk of the burning vehicle in Turnertown. While looking through phone records, law enforcement saw that Anderson, who lives in Bedford, started communicating with Hall around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. Records show that Anderson started traveling from Bedford around 11:45 p.m. east on Interstate 20.

"During his drive, (Anderson) was in constant contact with Hall," the document reads.

Phone records showed that Anderson and Hall were both at Hall's Troup-area residence around 2:30 a.m. Sept. 1. The victim's phone was seen going from Hall's home to the area of Turnertown in Rusk County. Anderson's last data was around 4:30 a.m. in the Turnertown area, and the first call about the burning vehicle came in 20 minutes later.

Police believe that based on phone records Hall's phone was shut off between the hours of 4 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Around the time that his phone came back on, records show it was in the same Turnertown area, where Anderson was, the affidavit read.

On Sept. 4, a patrol officer with Tyler police conducted a traffic stop with five individuals, one of which was Hall, officials said. Hall was armed with a 9mm handgun and an AR-15 rifle in the back seat of the vehicle, both of which were determined to be stolen. He was arrested at the scene for an unrelated active arrest warrant for an assault.

Hall was allegedly uncooperative with law enforcement during an interview. Hall was reportedly overheard making a phone call to his sister after his booking, wherein he told her she needed to "clean up" because he was in jail.

After executing a search warrant, investigators found several shell casings and bullets in the property, some of which appeared to be the same bullets loaded in Hall's AR-15.

Once they spoke with Hall's sister, law enforcement determined when the shooting happened. Hall had been hanging out with friends, including an unidentified juvenile and woman later identified as Williams. The sister heard the group talking about doing a "rip," which is slang for robbing someone.

The sister said she heard a gunshot and then another shot after a long pause. She also heard the teenager say, "I think we smoked this guy." The "smoking" is a slang term for killing. The sister said she picked up her stuff and left the scene after the shooting, the affidavit said.

The sister told police she cleaned up casings from the shooting and she threw casings out of her car window. She also said she hid a ladder behind a couch, the document read.

Using the sister's help and cell phone records, investigators identified Williams as a suspect as well. On Friday evening, Williams was surrendered to law enforcement by her mother. She remains in Smith County Jail on a $1 million bond.

A Smith County juvenile probation officer obtained a directive to apprehend the juvenile for his connection to the murder. The juvenile was located an apartment complex on Shiloh Road in Tyler by law enforcement agencies and attempted to run away, but was arrested shortly after by Tyler police and transported to the Smith County Juvenile Attention Center.

Hall is in Smith County Jail on a $2 million bond.
