GILMER, Texas — The Credit Union of Texas has set up an account for people to donate gifts to the families of two women who were killed last Saturday night in Upshur County.
Gilmer ISD Superintendent Rickey Albritton said on Facebook the school district has gotten several requests about how people can help the families of Dermetrica Waters, 37, and Mandy Ray, 35, both of Gilmer.
Waters and Ray, who were sisters, were found shot to death at a house in the 2800 block of U.S. Hwy. 271 South near Bluebird Road Saturday around 11:45 p.m., the Upshur County Sheriff's Office said. Alvin McKnight Jr., 41, of Gilmer, is wanted for capital murder in connection with their deaths and he has been found yet.
Albritton said Credit Union of Texas has set up an account for gifts at CUTX.org/WatersFamily. He also asked for people to remember the children and families in their prayers.
"This is an extremely difficult time in which we can provide love, encouragement, friendship and support as a community for these families. We have many counselors available should anyone need help during this difficult time," Albritton said.
The sheriff's office said McKnight is 6'5 and weighs about 280 lbs., with a muscular build. Officials say he has braided hair with blonde highlights.
Upshur County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $10,000 for any anonymous tip that leads to McKnight's arrest. Those who have information should call the Upshur County Sherriff’s Office at (903) 843-2541 or Upshur County Crime Stoppers at (903) 843-3131 or online at upshurcounty.crimestoppersweb.com.
The UCSO says McKnight and victim Waters lived together until recently, and this case is considered an incident of domestic violence. Sheriff Larry Webb said McKnight and Waters had a child together.
If you have any information on McKnight's whereabouts, call 911 or your local law enforcement agency.
