Crime Stoppers offering up to $10,000 for information leading to arrest of 'armed and dangerous' man accused of murdering 2 sisters in Upshur County

If you see Alvin McKnight Jr., do not confront him. Contact your local law enforcement agency.

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — The Upshur County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) is searching for a man they say murdered two women overnight.

According to the UCSO, on Saturday, around 11:45 p.m., authorities responded to reports of a shooting at a house in the 2800 block of U.S. Hwy. 271 S., near Bluebird Rd.

When officials arrived on scene, they found two women, identified as Mandy Ray, 35, and Dermetrica Waters, 37, both of Gilmer, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Upshur County Sheriff Larry Webb says the victims were sisters.

After taking witnesses statements, law enforcement obtained a capital murder arrest warrant for Alvin McKnight Jr. (AKA: Pookie), 41, of Gilmer. McKnight stands 6'5 and weighs about 280 lbs., with a muscular build. Officials say he has braided hair with blonde highlights.

Upshur County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $10,000 for any anonymous tip that leads to McKnight's arrest. Those who have information should call the Upshur County Sherriff’s Office at (903) 843-2541 or Upshur County Crime Stoppers at (903) 843-3131 or online at upshurcounty.crimestoppersweb.com.

According to law enforcement, McKnight's vehicle was located on Tenery St. in Gladewater. It is now in the possession of the UCSO. His cell phone was pinged near Gay Ave., early Sunday morning, but is now unavailable.

"McKnight is reported to have several relatives and friends in the Upshur County and Gladewater area," the UCSO said. "Anyone seeing this person is asked to not confront this individual, but to contact their local law enforcement agency."

The UCSO says McKnight and victim Waters lived together until recently, and this case is considered an incident of domestic violence. Sheriff Webb says McKnight and Waters had a child together.

Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter ordered autopsies for both victims.

If you have any information on McKnight's whereabouts, call 911 or your local law enforcement agency.
