TYLER, Texas — Rick Love Davis has been a bus driver for Tyler ISD for three years but this school year, he wants to transition into a position that impacts students in a different way. So, he took the ride to the Tyler ISD Job Fair on Monday.
"I’m just glad, I’m just bubbly. I'm bout to bust about the potential that I have. Amen, God is good," Davis said. "I teach Sunday school at church, so I'm experienced in that regard in dealing with children, amen. Trying to help them to be better productive children and citizens in this society, that's what the world needs."
This is Tyler ISD’s second year hosting the paraprofessional and auxiliary job fair and Human Resources Coordinator Artimese Lawrence said they are seeing more people than last year - bringing more excitement for a successful school year.
"The kids, they love to have a familiar face, when they walk, whether it's getting on the bus, whether it's coming through campus, whether it's serving a meal, they love to have that familiar face and say hello good morning," Lawrence said.
Lawrence and Davis agree it's important to hire people who have a passion for working with kids.
"The children are the future of this country. They need to be well groomed. They need to be educated. They need to be shown and told how to be good responsible people,. Amen," Davis said.
Lawrence said it's important to make sure that kids have the right people serving as their role models in school.
The biggest need right now is bus drivers and instructional assistants. Tyler ISD hopes to have those positions filled by the start of the school year on Aug. 12.
