Tyler ISD recognized as a 'district of distinction' by TAEA

The district is one of 94 winners chosen by TAEA as a 2024 District of Distinction recipient.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler ISD was awarded the Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction Award for the sixth consecutive year.

The district is one of 94 winners chosen by TAEA as a 2024 District of Distinction recipient, which recognizes districts for providing a well-rounded education that integrates visual arts into their curriculum.

“This esteemed honor reflects the dedication and creativity of our students, teachers, and staff,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said in a press release Wednesday. “The arts are essential in nurturing innovation and critical thinking, and this recognition underscores our commitment to offering a comprehensive education for every student."

Over 1,200 districts were eligible to apply for this distinction. Each district submitted their credentials according to a 14-point rubric over the 2023-2024 school year. 

“Tyler ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity, community participation, and student growth,” said Nealy Holley, Chair of the Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA, said in a press release.. “It is a true testament to your visual art educators’ skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students.”

Tyler ISD and the other winning districts will be honored during the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly on Nov. 15, 2024.
