Nacogdoches to celebrate its 34th annual Texas Blueberry Festival

Proceeds raised during the festival will go towards the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and help fund community programs and business development in the area.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The 34th annual Texas Blueberry Festival in Nacogdoches begins June 8.

This year's event will be presented by Tipton Ford and produced by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce.

The day-long celebration kicks off at 8 a.m. following the Running of the Blueberries race at 7:30 a.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., with a blueberry pancake breakfast served near the downtown square. The race includes 1 mile, 5K and a 10K on a Lanana Creek Trail.

With the only state-sanctioned blueberry festival in Texas, Nacogdoches attracts close to 20,000 people a year for the annual event.

The Chamber of Commerce has planned several blueberry-themed events for the day. Activities include a bounce park, arts and crafts, pie eating contents and several local vendors.

The festival began in 1989 when Nacogdoches residents Leon and Patsy Hallman organized alongside community leaders and volunteers to highlight downtown businesses and attractions while celebrating local industry.

Proceeds raised during the festival will go toward the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and help fund community programs and business development in the area.
