TYLER, Texas — The second Tyler man involved in killing a 33-year-old man during a 2021 home robbery was sentenced to 50 years in prison Thursday.
Dakevian Scroggins, 29, who was originally charged with capital murder, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of murder in connection with the May 13, 2021 shooting death of Christopher Frank Eiglebiger.
After entering his plea in the 7th District Court, Scroggins was then sentenced to 50 years in prison, according to Smith County judicial records.
Scroggins and Zaccheus Dunn, 27, were charged with capital murder in 2021 in connection with Eiglebiger's death. Dunn was sentenced to 44 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder on March 25.
On May 13, 2021, Eiglebiger was found dead in the 800 block of Crosby Street in Tyler. Officers learned Eiglebiger had been shot numerous times at his home. Evidence led police to believe his death was targeted.
