$1 billion in upgrades set for area highways; Gregg County population expected to grow

A large portion of that $1 billion in state road projects set for Gregg County in the next seven years will go toward Interstate 20 improvements.

The Texas Department of Transportation will invest about $1 billion in Gregg County infrastructure projects in the next decade. Meanwhile, the county’s economy and population continue to grow, though challenges will come with that.

Those were two of the key points of discussion during the Longview Chamber of Commerce’s State of the County conference Wednesday at the Infinity Event Center. Dozens of business, civic, political and education leaders from across the region were in attendance to learn more about the future of the region’s economy and transportation network.

A large portion of that $1 billion in state road projects set for Gregg County in the next seven years will go toward Interstate 20 improvements. Chief among those projects will be the $270 million construction of a new interchange at I-20 and Texas 31.
