One person was issued a citation for failing to yield the right-of-way in connection with a July 9 wreck that ended with the death of woman sitting at a Tyler bus stop.
Sandra Abrego, 43, was pronounced dead after she was injured when a white truck went off the road on South Broadway Ave. and hit her as she was sitting at the bus stop near Einstein Bros Bagels in Tyler on the afternoon of July 9, police said.
In an update shared Monday, Tyler Police Department spokesperson Andy Erbaugh said a black SUV, with a black pickup with a bed cover pulled out of the south exit of the French Quarter shopping center and into the path of the white truck, causing the truck to hit another vehicle and then hurtle into the bus stop.
Erbaugh said the driver of the black SUV was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.
Abrego had moved to Tyler from Houston a couple of months ago for work, according to her daughter Blanca Diaz. A GoFundMe page remains open to donations for Abrego's funeral expenses and to bring her back to El Salvador.
No one has been charged in connection with Abrego's death.
