TYLER, Texas — The Southern Oaks Baptist church in Tyler held their annual Easter extravaganza at Pollard park on Saturday.
Families got to enjoy a day filled with music, food, games, Easter egg hunts and a visit from the Easter bunny.
"This is our first extravaganza, and we're excited to come and be a part of it." Kai Ordonio, a first time participant, said.
Ordonio brought his wife and kids to the event, but he says his kids are more excited about what's inside the eggs than the actual eggs themselves!
"They're hoping for toys more than eggs and hoping for candy more than they are the eggs themselves." Ordonio said.
Rebecca Sorge, who directs children's activities at Southern Oaks, says events like this are important for the church. They're not just about sharing the gospel but also to spread positivity.
"We have so many negative things happening in our world, but this is something that's positive that shows that as we are one in Christ, where there's love, you know, there's love in the body of Christ and there's community. And so, we want to express that to others." Sorge said.
The Easter extravaganza is a tradition for the church....This is Sorge's sixth year organizing the event and says the community enjoys the event and the fellowship.
"We always have great feedback from the church members and also from the community." Sorge said.
The tradition is something that the Ordonio's kids seemed to enjoy.
"They were crazy excited. They were just wanting to get out of the van as fast as possible and run over here. But we were able to corral them." Ordonio said.
