Wreaths laid on the graves of Rusk County veterans for the holidays

The Rusk County Memorial Garden and Full Armor Christian Academy FFA partnered up to honor veterans this December.

TYLER — Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that every year in the month of December allows wreaths to be placed on the graves of veterans.

The event was founded in 2007, but for the first time Rusk County Memorial Garden and a local FFA chapter partnered up to host the event.

"We partnered up with the Full Armor Christian Academy, that's our nonprofit organization to get it started for the Wreaths Across America to come here," cemetery manager Jennifer Noble.

The cemetery and FFA set a goal of selling 350 wreaths to place on the graves of every veteran. Instead they sold more than 500 wreaths.

"So we already have a jump start for next year," Noble said.

She hopes that Rusk County will expand the event and have other cemeteries in Henderson participate next year as well.
