OFFICIALS: Rivers Recycling center in Liberty City collapses during fire; crews expect smoke to last a few more days

The Kilgore Fire Department says they were working on extinguishing a fire at Rivers Recycling on 298 W. FM 1252.

LIBERTY CITY, Texas — A large structure fire that broke out in Liberty City Wednesday is expected to continue smoking and burning for a few days.

The Kilgore Fire Department says the fire broke out at Rivers Recycling, located at 298 W. FM 1252. Sabine and White Oak firefighters are also assisting.

The KPD says the building collapsed overnight making it impossible for crews to reach the "seed" of the fire.

Crews are asking drivers to be aware of any incoming emergency vehicles and to avoid the area if possible.

FM 1252 is shut down between Fritz Swanson Rd. and Hwy. 42

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is en route to the scene.
