TYLER, Texas — On Thursday afternoon at the Tyler Junior College, a tornadic formation was in the works right on top of the campus. CBS19 received footage of the formation from an employee with Tyler Valet who was working at an on-campus event.
Karson Welch captured the moment on his phone before high winds swooped up around him and his coworkers. They immediately dashed for the building for shelter, but thankfully the storm did not escalate.
Welch said this isn't the only tornado that he's been around.
"I happened to be right in the middle of it like last time was over on Troup Highway by Stanley's and I drove home I didn't think it was that close to me," Welch said. "It was right on top of me so once again, I was like, 'oh, my God, what is happening right now?' I was scared but also exhilarated because I've never seen a tornado in person."
Thankfully Welch said he and his coworkers were safe and no one was harmed. The surrounding area only had a few things knocked over -- no major damage.
Welch said their valet box did fall over from the high winds and all the keys did fall out. He said thankfully they were able to sort them out and get everybody back in their cars.
