TYLER, Texas — A cold front will work across East Texas tonight bringing some strong thunderstorms with it. Temperatures will also drop as the front come by about 10-15 degrees. High Pressure will move on it bringing in some breezy northerly winds into the day on Wednesday.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for severe storms overnight for all of East Texas. Gusty winds are the main threat, but large hail and even a tornado cannot be ruled out this time. If any of the storms do turn severe tonight, CBS19 will have you covered online and on television.
Storms will pop up around sunset in our northern counties and the strength of these all depends on how high temperatures get during the day, that will determine the energy available for the storms. The warmer we get, the stronger our storms will be.
They will move into our viewing area starting around 8 p.m. and moving south into Deep East Texas overnight. Some could produce gusty winds, torrential rain and large hail. The line is expected to come through Tyler and Longview between 10 p.m. and midnight. Some of the storms could continue past midnight into Deep East Texas. As the sun comes up though, the storms should be out of area.
Although we are hoping to avoid any severe weather tonight across East Texas, we did need the rain across the region and that beneficial rainfall caused Upshur, Houston and Henderson to lift their burn bans earlier on Tuesday. Van Zandt County is the only county with burning restricting currently in East Texas.
After the front comes buy, expect drier air, but it will be cooler as well. Blustery northerly winds between 10-15 MPH will stick around for the first half of the day on Wednesday and highs should only reach the upper 60s for most of us.
Expect sunny skies on Thursday, and mostly sunny skies on Friday. Temps will be in the low 70s on Thursday, and mid-70s for Friday.
