TYLER, Texas — It's a new month and we have a new weather pattern. It took a month but the weather pattern is changing over to the pattern we will see set up and cycle through next summer.
But what does the new weather pattern hold? In our weather video podcast or vodcast, CBS19 Weather Wizards, the CBS19 Weather Experts talk about what they saw in October, what we typically see in November and what's ahead this month! Let's start with a look back. October was the month of the never-ending summer.
We came close to or set record highs all the way up through the end of the month. In fact, the final few days of October saw us set two new record highs in Tyler.
The last day of the month, Halloween, brought a sudden pattern shift. For the first time in a month, it rained all across East Texas. This pattern should continue through the first weekend of month. Savannah Hale walked us through the timeline of rain this weekend. In our vodcast, she showed us how it won't be a lot of rain but widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible both Saturday and Sunday.
September is often thought of as the start of the secondary severe weather season with a peak occurring sometime in October. But this year the start of the fall severe weather season has been delayed. Meteorologist Sara Blue explained that a series of cold fronts and added instability in the atmosphere will lead to a severe weather set up the first week of November. She also showed us the data that backs up the secondary severe weather uptick.
The more active weather pattern that commences in November ushers in cooler and eventually colder air. Historically, we see our average daytime highs and night time lows fall about 10 degrees from the start of the month to the beginning of December. November's not the rainiest month of the year but sometimes it feels like it as any cold, rainy day in November can bring on the taste for a warm crockpot meal or a bowl of chili.
CBS19's video weather podcast also covered the Long Range Cycling Weather Pattern theory and how it helps do long range forecasts. If you'll recall in CBS19 fall weather special, the CBS19 forecast for Halloween called for great weather for trick-or-treating and a high of 77.
In the end, the forecast turned out as we expected. We hope you enjoy this edition of the CBS19 Weather Wizards, and we'll be back with another episode next week. Until then enjoy the changing weather and changing leaves in East Texas.
