National Weather Service breaks down Longview storm

On Wednesday, a straight line wind storm struck the city of Longview, producing winds up to 90 mph and causing damage throughout the city.

LONGVIEW, Texas — The National Weather Service released their initial report of Wednesday's storm that caused significant damage in the city of Longview.

The NWS says the straight line wind storm produced winds as strong as 90 miles per hour.

The strongest part of the storm hit the north side of the city from West Loop 281 to East Loop 281, north of U.S. 80.

Most of the damage was from TX 63 Spur North of Fairmont Street to near Akin Park.

The NWS says several trees were snapped or uprooted. A number of those trees fell on homes causing major damage. The NWS report also mention the collapsed steeple of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.

The NWS says the damage decreased on the northeast side of the city.

However, the NWS mentioned trees were snapped on FM 2208, County Road 3600, FM 450 and FM 449 west-southwest of Nesbitt.
