TYLER, Texas — Turn your eyes to the sky this Friday because our last supermoon of the year is on the way!
This Friday will feature a stunning look at the Beaver Moon. In East Texas, the moon will become full at 3:29 in the afternoon. Once the sun sets, the supermoon's brightness will be on full display.
Supermoons often look larger and up to 30% brighter than the faintest full moon, according to NASA. This "super" brightness happens due to the earth's position in its orbit.
The moon orbits the earth in an oblong shape. It's perigee is the closest point in it's orbit, which is approximately 226,000 miles from Earth. At that point, the moon can appear up to 14% larger. When the moon reaches peak fullness at its perigee, it's considered a supermoon.
This will be the last of four consecutive supermoons. And you won't want to miss this one, because we likely will wait until next year to see another one.
East Texas sky watchers are in luck this Friday. The skies are forecasted to be clear giving us a great view of the moon.
