Category 4 Hurricane Beryl right along the Jamaican coast

Beryl is forecast to slowly weaken this week as it faces wind shear and some dry air.

NEW ORLEANS —

Tracking the Tropics:

Major Hurricane Beryl is impacting Jamaica with devastating winds, storm surge, and intense rain. The eye is just along the southern coast and it continues moving quickly to the west. While it will be farther south of the Cayman Islands, it will still bring strong winds and rain. By Friday a weakening, but strong, Beryl will move over the Yucatan with further weakening expected to a tropical storm. It's possible it will regain some strength over the SW Gulf and the official forecast does restrengthen to a category 1 before landfall in either northeast Mexico or southern Texas Monday. Still not a threat to the northern Gulf coast.

Invest 96 went from a high chance for development in the central Atlantic to medium then low, where it remains. The GFS has become a little more bullish with organization and the Euro not. Hurricane models also split on whether or not the Invest can organize in the Caribbean. Worth a watch, but no threat at this time.
