TYLER, Texas —
The first freeze of the season is on the way.
Temperatures are set to drop to below the freezing level. Some places could even drop as low as 27°. Because of this, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for most of East Texas. This is in effect from 1 to 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Make sure to be prepared in advance. Remember the 4 P’s: people, pets, pipes and plants. Bring all pets indoors to keep them safe from the cold. If you have any outdoor animals, like cows or chickens, make sure they have access to a warm, dry shelter. Drain or wrap your outdoor pipes. If outdoor plumbing is left in the frost, ice could form and create damage. Also, remember to take care of your plants and bring any particularly sensitive plants indoors.
This freezing is coming ahead of schedule. Typically, we do not experience the first freeze in East Texas until mid-November. However, it is not a record. We have seen freezes on Halloween night previously.
This cold snap is the result of a strong cold front that pushed through part of the U.S. this week and caused temperatures to tumble. Many areas of the south and the mid-Atlantic are under freeze alerts.
