TEXAS, USA — Goblins and ghosts decorate Jared Garen's yard in preparation for Halloween this weekend. It's a spooky sight, but when he got home from work Thursday afternoon, something else spooked him.
“As I was coming into the neighborhood, I saw a whole bunch of stuff down and I was already like, ‘Oh, I wonder what my house is gonna be like,'" Garen said,
He found a tree limb that fell right where he normally parks his car so if he’d been parked where he normally is, it could’ve done some damage.
“Glad I wasn't here,” he added.
The City of Tyler told CBS19 us that they responded to 44 calls for downed trees and limbs Thursday afternoon.
Those gusts reached speeds of up to 55 miles per hour.
In the Lake Fork area, the wind blew a metal sheet from her roof up into the trees.
Lawn chairs and fallen trash cans scattered north Tyler but the fallen trees posed one of the biggest threats.
LouAnn Campbell with the City of Tyler said fallen trees in someone’s yard are the homeowners' responsibility, but residents should reach out for help if they're driving and see fallen trees in the streets
Call the Tyler Streets Department at (903) 531-1393.
If you notice a downed power line- don’t call the city or ONCOR call 911.
