TYLER, Texas — The longest holiday weekend of the summer is here.

Independence Day is Tuesday which means if you count Friday as the start of the weekend, then we'll have five days to celebrate the 4th. Doesn't an extra long weekend at the beach sound fantastic? If you're headed to the beach, the water temperature will be warm enough to jump right in.

There will be a lot of sunshine so don't forget to lather up and lather up often, especially between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. when the sun's rays will be the strongest. If you're worried about rain, you won't have too many concerns until Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons when sea breeze showers and thunderstorms will be possible.

We also don't have to worry about tropical storms or hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico for the Independence Day holiday. The Tropics are very quiet but this is the time of the year, tropical storm development begins to ramp up. Up to nearly three dozen storms have passed within 150 miles of any location shaded in blue since 1944.
