DPS identifies person killed, 4 injured following crash on HWY 31 E in Smith County

The investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling on County Road 2212 when it was turning west onto HWY 31 and collided with another vehicle on HWY 31.

One person is dead after a wreck on Highway 31 and Surrey Trail in Tyler.

TYLER, Texas — Officials identified the Tyler woman who was killed and four people who were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Smith County Tuesday evening.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt. Adam Albritton, one person was confirmed dead at the scene and four people were taken to a local hospital as a result of the crash at State Highway 31 East at County Road 2212 around 5:50 p.m.

Officials have identified the person who passed away in the crash as Mary L. Crockett, 55, of Tyler. 

Four people in the second vehicle were all taken to a hospital in Tyler to treat their injuries.

The investigation revealed Mercedes Lopez-Moran, 40, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado east on Highway 31 with three passengers, Gabriella Bilchis, 20, William Bilchis, 12, and Isabella Bilchis, 1.

Crockett was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 north on County Road 2212 when she attempted to turn west onto Highway 31, when her vehicle collided with Moran's vehicle. 

Officials are continuing to investigate this crash.
