ORANGE, Texas — A woman is alive today thanks to the actions of police, a good Samaritan and some quick thinking from two children.

Epifanio Munguia says he was driving along the 500 block of Highway 87 in West Orange when he looked and saw the headlights of a car slowly sinking in the nearby canal.

Munguia immediately stopped driving and rushed down the canal to help an officer who was desperately trying to free the unconscious woman behind the wheel.

As Munguia and the officer continued to work to get to the woman, the two children who had escaped from the car ran to the road and flagged down another man to help.

Eventually Munguia was finally able to shatter the window of the car, and the man who the children had just flagged down, ripped the woman from the car as it continue to sink below the surface.

Finally back on land, first responders performed CPR on the woman until she got her pulse back according to Orange firefighters.

She was then immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Orange Fire responded along with Orange County Sheriff's Office.

12News asked a still soaking wet and bleeding Munguia how he felt about helping save a life.

"It's just what we're supposed to do," said Munguia "I don't see nothing special about it, it's just what you do."

The woman's condition is currently unknown.
