LUFKIN, Texas — An overturned 18-wheeler shuts down southbound lanes of West Loop 287 in Lufkin Thursday afternoon.
According to City of Lufkin spokesperson Jessica Pebsworth, a portion of Loop 287 near Denman Avenue is closed to cleanup the substance the truck was carrying.
Officials said the substance is not hazardous but is oil-based and needs proper cleanup to prevent slick road conditions.
TxDOT and the City of Lufkin Street Department are on the scene, officials said.
Pebsworth urges drivers to avoid southbound lanes until further notice and to be aware of delays on the northbound lanes of Loop 287. At this moment, northbound traffic is backed up to the Chestnut Street intersection.
