1 dead in single vehicle crash in Anderson County

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver overcorrected the vehicle after driving onto the opposite lane on HWY 79, then drove into a ditch and hit a tree.

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas — One man is dead after driving into a ditch and stricking a tree in Anderson County Saturday afternoon.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Chris Williamson, Nittin Mittal, 34, of Waco was pronounced dead on the scene on U.S. Highway 79, just one mile northeast of Neches.

The preliminary investigation indicates Mittal was driving a 2008 Kia Optima northeast on U.S. 70 when the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane. Mittal overcorrected the vehicle, driving it into a ditch and hit a tree, Williamson said.

Officials continue to investigate this crash.
