TYLER, Texas — Did you know the Earth is getting a second, mini-moon? Well, sort of.
There will be a satellite-like object orbiting the Earth for about eight weeks starting this weekend.
This is about an asteroid named 2024 PT5. Starting Sept. 29 and lasting into November, this asteroid, which is about the size of a school bus, will pass by the Earth.
The Earth's gravitational pull will tether the asteroid causing it to orbit in a horseshoe shaped path around our planet. People won't be able to see it with the naked eye and maybe not even with a telescope. It poses no threat to the Earth or its moon as the asteroid passes and moves away by Thanksgiving.
